During his career, Michael Butler has directed hundreds of program evaluation, organizational development, and technical assistance projects in a wide array of areas including public education, college and career readiness, community health and wellness services, and workforce development. His work is centered on accelerating equity and demonstrating measurable impact in the social sector.
Michael comes to HMA from NPO Solutions, now a division of HMA Community Strategies. He has worked with decision-makers at the local, state, and national levels to enhance accountability, measure effectiveness, disseminate best practices and implement research-based strategies for continuous improvement. His work has spanned sectors including public education, workforce development and intervention support programs for youth and families.
At NPO Solutions, he has worked to embed program evaluation and key performance indicator metrics into the firm’s strategic planning model. In addition, he has provided professional development and coaching services focused on data-driven approaches to enhance service delivery and build collaborative evaluation culture into organizations.
He co-founded and served as vice president of Public Works, Inc., a nonprofit organization dedicated to utilizing data to improve the effectiveness of the public and nonprofit sectors. Michael also served as a consultant and researcher.
He earned a Master of Arts in political science from the University of California, Los Angeles, and an undergraduate degree from Occidental College. Michael was also a research fellow at the RAND Corporation and is a graduate of the University of Southern California’s executive program in social innovation through the Price School of Public Policy.
